Premium Specialist Hillside Vineyard
Lying with a north east aspect along a ridge overlooking the Leefield development in the Waihopai Valley, Marlborough, this gently sloping 22 hectare hillside vineyard produces exquisite fruit. It bathes in early morning sun while enjoying relief from the harsh afternoon heat; both grapes and workers love it. The high density plantings of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, with small areas of Viognier and Petit Manseng, were planted to fit into the landscape, there was no artificial contouring. Renowned French soil scientist Claude Bourguignone described the vineyard's terroir as being of Grand Cru standard and not dissimilar in character to Romanee-Conti. Irrigation is by way of dripline; water is sourced from the Waihopai Irrigation Group with 20 shares providing 18 cubic metres/ha/day or 3,600,000 litres per day, plus a B class Omaka River take (U100129) which along with natural runoff is used to fill a dam on the property. On both flanks, the land falls away steeply, draining cold air and preventing frost. This is a very special property and although reluctantly offered to market, vendors need it sold.
