Job Description
Printhie Wines is a leading wine producer in the cool climate region of Orange in New South Wales. We are focussed on making great wines for our own brands, Printhie Wines & Swift Sparkling, as well as our contract winemaking clients.
The range of wines that we produce span from premium sparkling, aromatic and barrel fermented white wine and red wines from French, Italian and Spanish varieties. Printhie Wines is expecting to crush approximately 600-700 tonnes in the 2019 vintage.
The winery has recently upgraded its crushing and pressing equipment and is equipped with other modern winemaking equipment such as cross-flow filtration and juice flotation. We utilise open and static fermenters for red wine fermentation. Small barrels and large oak foudres are used for maturation.
Printhie Wines is a family owned and operated business. We have a small and experienced winemaking team. Vintage casual staff get a wide variety of cellar operations on a daily basis. Staff are not stationed in one area for the entire vintage. Everyday is different. The work has variety and interest and you have daily contact with senior winemaking personnel and will gain an understanding of the entire winemaking methodology and practice.
The Printhie Wines approach is that casual vintage staff often want more than just long hours of work and little else. At Printhie we operate 2 shifts per day – morning and afternoon shift. There is no graveyard shift and we do not operate 24 hours per day. Vintage casuals are required to work 7.6 hours per day, 5 days per week. There is adequate time off to enjoy life and take advantage of recreational and cultural activities in the region and nearby cities such as Sydney and Canberra. Printhie provides lunch everyday for its staff, we have a restaurant grade Boema coffee machine for real coffee everyday, we conduct regular staff wine tastings of benchmark wines from around the world as well as museum tastings of Printhie’s own wines. We can help source accommdation. Having your own car/transport is highly recommended.
Job Requirements
Estimated employment period of 12 weeks. Expected start date 4 February. Expected finish date 26 April. At least one full vintage of previous experience in a commercial winery. The successful applicant will be required to work on the morning shift. You will be required to perform a wide range of cellar operations under the supervision of Printhie’s Assistant Winemaker. The successful applicant should be proficient in the use of typical winery equipment, be able to take instruction and communicate clearly and should have an eye for detail, care about quality and be passionate about wine. Award conditions (MA00090 Wine Industry Award 2010 Updated July 2018 – Grade 2 Cellar Stream). All applicants must have Australian citizenship/residency or a valid existing Australian work visa.
