Job Description
Vintage Winemaker/Assistant Winemaker position to either start early December or early January 2019

Vintage Winemaker
Deakin Estate is part of Wingara Wine Group which is in turn a subsidiary of Grupo Freixenet, one of the world’s largest Sparkling Cava producers, which has wineries all over the world. Deakin Estate is a 12000-15000t winery making a broad range of still and sparkling wines for our own brands and for external customers. The vast majority of our fruit is grown on the estate’s vineyards attached to the winery, so the position involves fruit assessment from vine to press.

The Vintage winemaker will assist the Winemakers in planning and managing the receival of fruit from our vineyards and for our contract customers.
The Vintage Winemaker will assist in the writing of crush and pressing notes for fruit intake, conduct fining trials as required and ensure the juice meets the set specifications ready for ferment. The incumbent’s responsibilities will also include the overseeing of yeast culture preparation and maintenance as well as reacting to ferment data on a daily basis.

The job will be varied and comes with a high level of responsibility.
As it is a vintage role, applicants must be prepared to work extended hours throughout the vintage period.

There is a possibility that for the right candidate the position will lead to a permanent Assistant Winemaker role after vintage has ended.

Assistant Winemaker
The Assistant Winemaker’s main responsibilities will be the maintenance of blends and existing wines and organising bottling's and despatches for both our house brands and contract customers. This is a very varied role and there will be ample opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the winemaking process alongside the Winemaker and Chief Winemaker.
Job Requirements
Based on the above responsibilities the ideal candidate will have some experience in a mid to large scale winery.

Good interpersonal skills are required as you will be dealing with people at all levels of the company and external customers on a regular basis.

A degree in Oenology is essential; recent Graduates are welcome to apply.

We don’t expect you to know everything, but do require someone who is inquisitive, thorough, thoughtful and keen to learn.

Fluency in English is required and familiarity with the Ezy wine system will be viewed favourably.

Application including a cover letter and a list of Referees can be made in confidence to Aidan Menzies via email using the 'APPLY FOR JOB’ link above.

Applicants must have Australian citizenship/residency or a valid existing Australian work visa.
