Description

Hidden Bench Vineyards & Winery is a leading boutique estate producer of ultra premium, cool climate, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling situated in Beamsville Ontario. Recognized for our extreme attention to detail from our organically and sustainable farmed estate vineyards (75acres/ 30 hectares) to our traditional terroir based, non-interventionist winemaking techniques, we have established a reputation for producing benchmark wines on a consistent basis for which we have a devoted following. Although not our primary focus the winery also produces small lots of Bordeaux blends, Gewrztraminer and Viognier from legacy plantings.

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to take on the responsibility for our entire winemaking operations. Working with a dedicated world class team including a committed vineyard manager and associate winemaker you will be part of a winery that is setting the benchmark and pushing the envelope of cool climate viticulture and winemaking. This is a hands-on position and as such your responsibilities will range from management of all production tasks and development of budgets to actually working in the cellar, to being part of strong sales and marketing initiatives. Our environmentally friendly, world class production facility will permit you all the tools necessary to continue to maintain and improve the quality parameters of the wine produced at HB.

Requirements

The qualified candidate for this position will have a tertiary degree in Enology and a minimum of 5 years of hands on experience crafting ultra premium wines particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. A complete knowledge of winemaking techniques (including the management of natural fermentations) coupled with exceptional analytical tasting skills and the ability to link the vineyard to the bottle is required. Your experience has shown you to be a motivated team leader with strong management skills and a well developed technical and analytical aptitude, additionally your pro-active communication skills and demonstrated organizational skills will be an asset in this position. Excellent computer skills are a prerequisite. We are looking for a winemaker that embraces an Old World vision of viticulture and oenology but with New World approach to innovation.

Additional skills and attributes that may distinguish you as a candidate for this position are: 1) Experience with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling in a cool climate environment 2) Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish 3) Demonstrated Biodynamic/organic viticulture experience.
