Job Description
The Lane Vineyard, nestled in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, is renowned for crafting cool climate wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. We are committed to sustainability, innovation, and maintaining the highest standards in winemaking.
We are seeking a passionate and skilled individual to join our team as an Assistant Winemaker. This is a hands-on role that requires a high level of physical fitness and a willingness to perform regular cellar work to a high standard. The successful candidate will support the Head Winemaker in all aspects of wine production, from grape harvest to bottling, ensuring that our wines meet The Lane Vineyard’s high standards.
Job Requirements
Responsibilities and Duties:
Winemaking Strategy:
• Assist in developing, planning, and implementing The Lane Vineyard's winemaking strategy.
• Collaborate with the winemaking team to ensure wines reflect the true expressions of varieties, styles, and sub-regions.
Vintage Planning:
• Contribute to the development and execution of The Lane Vineyard vintage plan.
Fruit Intake:
• Work closely with the Head Winemaker and Cellar Master to facilitate all fruit intake from estate and contracted vineyards.
Winery Operations:
• Undertake daily winery operations, adhering to industry-standard safe working practices.
• Ensure all winery equipment is maintained, cleaned, serviced, and in good working order.
Lab Analysis and Record Keeping:
• Oversee accurate and up-to-date lab analysis and record keeping of all The Lane Vineyard wines.
Cellar Management:
• Maintain a safe, clean, hygienic, and well-presented cellar.
Winery Records:
• Contribute to accurate and up-to-date winery records on the Vintrace winery management system.
Training and Education:
• Assist in training and educating vintage cellar staff.
Representation and Events:
• Represent The Lane Vineyard at external tastings and events.
• Assist in planning and executing onsite events and festivals.
Wine Show Entries:
• Submit, record, and analyse all wine show entries and reviews.
Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with all relevant State and Federal legislation related to grape growing and winemaking.
Communication:
• Effectively communicate within and outside the winemaking department.
• Ensure information is conveyed up and down the line as required.

• Contribute to the positive workplace culture of The Lane Vineyard, promoting integrity and respect for all team members.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Oenology, Viticulture, or a related field.
• Previous experience in a winemaking role is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of winemaking processes and techniques.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Physical fitness and a willingness to perform hands-on, physically demanding cellar tasks are essential.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
