Job Description
The Pooley Wines General Manager has a passion for the Australian wine industry and a clear and practical understanding of how a wine business operates. Key responsibilities include formulating overall strategy, managing people and establishing policies. To be successful in this role, you should be a thoughtful leader and a confident decision-maker, helping our people develop and be productive, while ensuring profits and return on investment.

The General Manager will work closely with management to drive performance in the business and grow the business for the future.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations across all aspects of the business
• Design strategy and set goals for growth based on management’s risk appetite and vision
• Encourage a positive and safe workplace
• Set and review budgets against actual trading results, identifying areas needing cost reduction or process improvement
• Regular reporting of key financial and non-financial results to managers and Managing Director
• Reviewing financial statements, sales, or other data to measure and report on performance & productivity
• Directing sales, marketing, and customer service activities
• Build strong Business to Business and Business to Consumer relationships
• Set policies and processes
• Evaluate and employ continuous improvement practices across the business
• Provide solutions to issues (e.g., profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors, stock availability, sales variations)
• Ensure employees work productively and develop professionally
• Oversee recruitment and training of new employees
• Direct the employee assessment process, including performance reviews.
• Ensure staff follows health and safety regulations
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation
• Manage all physical assets and IP

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
• Proven experience as a General Manager or similar executive role
• Proven experience in a wine business, demonstrating a clear understanding of wine business processes from the vineyard through to sales/distribution across retail and wholesale sales channels
• Experience in planning and budgeting
• Knowledge of general business process and functions (finance, HR, procurement, operations, policies and procedures, pricing, stock management)
• Relevant qualifications highly regarded
