Job Description
Pride Mountain Vineyards is a small, ultra-premium winery located at the top of Spring Mountain, above the town of St Helena and situated on the Napa-Sonoma county line. We produce about 15,000 cases of mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Sangiovese, Viognier and Chardonnay.

The winery was established in 1991 by founder Jim Pride, who passed away in 2004. Jim’s two children, Steve Pride and Suzanne Pride Bryan, are now the co-owners of the estate, with Steve overseeing the day-to-day operations as CEO.

The Harvest Enologist will join a small production team of five people and will be involved in all production activities, including pump-overs, receiving grapes, inoculations, loading the press, shoveling out tanks, filling barrels, bottling, racking, sanitizing equipment, etc. The Harvest Enologist will also have the opportunity to work with the winemaker to design and carry out an experimental fermentation.

Housing will not be provided, but the winery will provide a car for the Harvest Enologist to use for transportation to work and for personal use including travel. Lunch will also be provided daily during September, October and November. The wage will be between $18 - 20 USD depending on experience. The position will involve overtime of approximately 10 - 15 hours per week, which will be paid at 1.5x the regular hourly wage in accordance with California state law.

The goal of our internship is to provide a fun, diverse and educational experience for an international visitor. Prior Harvest Enologist interns have hailed from Burgundy, Paris, Southern France, South Africa, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal and more. We enjoy the exchange of ideas that adding someone from overseas brings to our team. The job will involve long days and lots of physical work, but we make every effort to ensure that it is a great experience for both our Harvest Enologist and our permanent team.
Job Requirements
Prior experience including working at least one, and preferably two or more, vintage jobs is required. Comfort operating different types of pumps is essential. A degree in winemaking and/or prior experience with barrel work and forklift driving is preferred but is not required.

The Harvest Enologist must obtain an international drivers license or a Californian drivers license and must be willing to observe all mandated safety procedures and production protocols.

The Harvest Enologist will need to obtain a US work visa.

An upbeat attitude and a friendly demeanor are essential, as we have a small and close-knit team and we spend a lot of time together during the busy harvest season. The Harvest Enologist should also be prepared to interact cordially and professionally with the winery's many visitors.
