About the role:
Small Wonder is a Certified Organic vineyard and winery located in the beautiful Tamar Valley in Northern Tasmania. We have a small team of skilled and passionate people dedicated to producing wines at the highest level. We are looking for a meticulous, motivated and hardworking Laboratory Technician/Cellar Hand to become an integral part of our winemaking team as we continue to grow.

Established in 2018, the company’s vision was driven from a desire to create premium wines crafted from 100% organically grown fruit, with minimal impact on the environment. The company now has vineyards in both Tasmania and Margaret River, Western Australia.
In line with Overstory’s commitment to sustainable grape growing, Small Wonder is intent on restoring biodiversity and regenerating the land. The goal is to responsibly produce iconic wines that celebrate their unique place in the world while bringing people closer together.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Conducting routine analysis on juice and wine
• Recording & tracking results accurately, entering data into spreadsheets and/or wine tracking software (Innovint)
• Maintaining impeccable records, complying with ACO requirements for organic production
• Keeping lab equipment in top condition and create a clean, organised workspace that promotes efficiency and safety
• Establishing and maintaining all laboratory and related quality control procedures
• Managing inventory of laboratory and cellar supplies
• Preparing fining and sensory trials
• Pitching in with general cellar tasks as needed, including flexible hours during the busy vintage period
• Supporting the training and supervision of harvest casuals and seasonal staff, helping build a cohesive, high-performing team
Desired skills & experience:
• Must have previous experience working in a winery cellar or lab
• A deep knowledge of laboratory procedures and analysis techniques
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A general understanding of winery cellar work and winemaking principles
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends, holidays, night shifts, and occasional overtime to keep things running smoothly
