Job Description
We have an opportunity for a Winemaker to join our small winemaking team, located at our winery in Margaret River.

With an annual crush of 3000 to 4000 t , we are seeking a winemaker with a strong technical and practical winemaking background, an outgoing personality, great communication skills, a demonstrable passion for wine and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar size or larger winery.

The key responsibilities of this role include:
• Planning, organising and management of the daily operations of the winery. This includes managing and developing the cellar team, both inside and outside the vintage period.
• Employment of vintage staff and vintage rostering.
• Maintenance of the winery management system – vintrace.
• Maintenance of winery plant and equipment including the effluent system, sampling, monitoring and reporting.
• Wine quality, cellar hygiene and winery safety.
• Liaise with laboratory manager to ensure all Quality Assurance requirements are met.
• All wines made on-site are to specification and bottle ready according to the company’s and contract customer’s bottling schedules.
• Compliance with the company’s food and workplace safety practices and policies and engagement in the ongoing management and implementation thereof.

Job Requirements

• Well organised and able to train and supervise others to ensure the efficient work flow of the cellar.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• An ability to work under pressure and meet timelines.
• An outgoing personality and a willingness to work as a team.
• Excellent cellar skills and a good understanding of winery machinery.
• A sound understanding of wine chemistry and analysis.
• Willingness and ability to adopt flexible working hours including extended hours during the vintage period.
• A current Forklift license.
• Be able to establish positive relationships with all key stakeholders including other departments within the company and contract customers.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• A passion for wine and winemaking.
• An understanding of the winemaking for methode traditional wine.
• An enthusiasm for wine and a deep appreciation of wine quality.
• A well developed palate and a global appreciation of wine.

The role reports to Chief &/or Senior Winemaker.
