Job Description
Helm Wines is a boutique family-owned winery located in Murrumbateman. We pride ourselves on the quality of our wines and the premium reputation of our fruit. Located 40 minutes from Canberra, this role is conveniently in a beautiful rural location with a vibrant country community, whilst also close to major centres.

We are seeking an experienced vineyard manager to carry out viticulture work across our 8 hectares of estate and leased vineyards and to maintain the aesthetics of the estate grounds. You will work closely with the owner, winemaking team and contractors. This is an ideal position for a person who enjoys working in autonomously in a self-motivating ‘hands on’ role. Manual labour is an integral part of this position.

Flexible part time work arrangements can be discussed. As we are a small family run business we expect and help our team members to be adaptable and flexible meaning you may be asked to work in other areas of the operation including: winery, warehouse and other aspects of property management.

An attractive remuneration package, commensurate with experience, is available to the successful candidate.
Starting date; First week in September 2021 or maybe negotiated with a suitable candidate.

Job Requirements
Your role will include;
• Make the day-to day decisions required to run the vineyard
• Machinery operation in the vineyard.
• Pruning/Vine training and canopy management.
• Pest, disease, and weed management.
• Perform basic servicing and repairs of machinery.
• Accurate record-keeping of spray applications and vineyard operations as required.
• Ordering relevant vineyard supplies.
• Keeping maintenance records up to date for all plant and equipment.
• Working closely with winemaking team to schedule harvest including grape sampling.
• Organisation and supervision of picking, pruning and vineyard task contact crews.
• Ensuring compliance of staff and contractors to best practice safety protocols.
• Managing workflow to ensure timely completion of vineyard activities in conjunction with winery activities (particularly at harvest time)
• Undertake other day-to-day operations of the vineyard as required.

For this role you will need;
• To be eligible to work in Australia - you must be a citizen or permanent resident.
• Drivers licence plus fork lift licence ( an advantage)
• At least 3 years viticultural experience
• Physically fit and healthy
• Chemical User Permit or willingness to complete.
• Have experience and knowledge of operating vineyard machinery safely
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with the operation of pumps, tractors etc and the ability to service and conduct basic repairs.
• Good communication and time management skills
• Sound experience in farm budgeting and cost management.
• Be able to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong leadership skills and experience managing/working with casual staff and contractors
• To be flexible and reliable in terms of responding to the workflows of the vineyard at key times such as spray application and harvest programs
