Make Wines Australia (MWA) operates the Step Rd winery in the beautiful Langhorne Creek region of South Australia. We produce premium wines from our McLaren Vale/Blewitt Springs and Adelaide Hills vineyards for the Beresford Estate and Press & Bloom range. We also produce other well-developed brands and products such as Galway Pipe Grand Tawny, Queen Adelaide, Andrew Garrett Sparkling Shiraz, Boronia Marsala, Three Oaks Cider and Bickford’s pomegranate juice.
We are looking for people to join our small winery team as Cellar Hands for the 2022 Vintage. We are also seeking one experienced cellar hand with a view to operating one of our two membrane presses during vintage, plus a good opportunity for ongoing work after vintage.
Vintage Cellar Hands - experience will be highly regarded but on the job training and Confined Space Entry course is also provided. Successful candidates for the Vintage cellar hand roles will commence in the second half of February 2022 and we envisage will conclude in April or May 2022, however there is also an opportunity for ongoing employment with at least two positions expected to continue past May.
Duties will include all cellar operations including grape receival and processing, crushing, racking and transfers/wine movements, filtration, fermentation, pump overs, fermentation sampling, barrel work, cellar hygiene and other vintage processing.
Press operator - Grade 3/4 Cellar Hand: At least one vintage running a press (any press!) with basic knowledge of extraction rates and operation. Membrane Press operation experience is not essential, as training and ongoing supervision will be provided. Experienced cellar hands suited for this role may be offered an earlier commencement date.
The personal characteristics important to this role is underpinned by a hands-on style coupled with:
• The ability to work well in a close-knit team, but also be autonomous when required
• Reliable and trustworthy
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions well
• Have strong numerical and literacy skills
• A friendly, cheerful and positive attitude
• Understanding of the importance of safe work practices
• A forklift license will be highly regarded but is not essential
To be successful you must be willing and able to work extended hours and weekends on rotating shifts, being 6 days a weeks across two shifts, day and afternoon.
There is great potential to widen your experience with a wide range of products and processes from small batch wines, sparkling wine, brandy spirit bases, premium red wines in tiny parcels, pinot noir, larger batches of red wines for our sister brands, fortified wine bases and fortification, cider from fresh Adelaide Hills apple juice and unusually, some late season pomegranate processing.
