Why You’ll Love This Role:

As our Viticulture Manager, you’ll lead the viticulture operations for both owned and contracted vineyards and be responsible for achieving optimal grape quality and yield, ensuring grapes grown for the Mollydooker Group of Companies are grown in line with the Marquis Vineyard Watering Program.

This role will provide the opportunity for continued research of refining best practice. Your efforts will directly contribute to the quality and volume of grapes ready for processing and production.

Job Requirements
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development: Guide and motivate a small team to achieve high-quality outcomes. Lead by example, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
Vineyard Management: Develop and implement strategic vineyard management plans to achieve optimal grape quality and yield, ensuring grapes grown for Mollydooker Group of Companies are grown in line with the Marquis Vineyard Watering Program. Design and execute annual vineyard schedules, including pruning, canopy management, thinning, and harvesting, effectively utilizing both internal viticulture resources and external contracted services. Determine optimal harvest dates based on fruit weight in collaboration with Senior Winemaker. Coordinate and supervise fruit intake during vintage, including workforce management and logistics
Relationship Building: Work closely with the winemaking team to align vineyard practices with desired wine styles and quality standards. Develop strong, trusted relationships with growers and partners, ensuring the successful implementation of viticulture practices and sustaining long-term valued partnerships.
Sustainability and Compliance: Advance the environmentally sustainable approach to all practices and reduce emissions through implementing best practice viticulture techniques. Ensure vineyard operations adhere to environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
Technology and Innovation: Utilize vineyard management software and agriculture technologies to enhance vineyard monitoring and decision-making. Conduct further research relating to the Viticulture watering practices addressing challenges resulting from environmental changes, and that identify opportunities to achieve the desired fruit weight measures.

Reporting and Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of all vineyard activities, including planting, treatments, harvests, watering program requirements including recommendations and actions, and resource management.
Community and Industry Engagement: Represent the Company at industry events, conferences, and local community activities.


What We’re Looking For:

• Education & Experience: Tertiary qualification in Viticulture, Applied Science, Agricultural Science, or equivalent discipline, with 3-5 years of relevant experience in vineyard management or technical viticulture.
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and develop a vineyard team, with a strong focus on operational and administrative excellence.
• Safety Leadership: Lead the safety culture within the viticulture team, ensuring safe work practices and compliance with WHS regulations.
• Technical Experience: In addition to the education and experience, a scientific-focused leader who can articulate and engage others in the technical nature of viticulture, including being able to share our best practices with broader audiences.
• Financial Aptitude: Demonstrated proficiency in budgeting, financial reporting, and record keeping.
• Hands-On Approach: Willingness to engage in manual labour tasks, especially during peak periods.

Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualification in Viticulture, Applied Science, Agricultural Science, or equivalent discipline.
• At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in vineyard management or technical viticulture.
• Valid full Australian driver’s licence.
