Job Description
Two Hands Wines is one of the most exciting winery producing and crushing an incredible variety of grapes from highly acclaimed Shiraz and Cabernet through to Riesling, Chardonnay or Grenache, making wines from 7 different regions. Always looking at improving the quality of our production, we are seeking a highly experienced Viticulture Senior Manager to lead and develop our viticulture Department. This is an exciting senior leadership role that offers the opportunity to apply your vine growing skills alongside your people management.

The objective of the Viticulture Senior Manager’s role is to supervise and manage all aspects of the production and development of Two Hands’ vineyards (100 acres Estate Vineyard on 3 sites. This objective is pursued with respect to our reputation, traditional methods and in alignment with our ISO 9001 certification.
Based in the Barossa Valley, the Viticulture Manager reports to the General Manager with a direct line of communication to the Proprietor and founder.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Vineyard operations: Primarily responsible for all facets including pruning; pest and disease management (including monitoring and spraying); under vine, soils and canopy management; irrigation scheduling and management including sap flow monitoring and soil moisture technology

2. Water Management: Responsible for sap flow technology management including installation and maintenance of the equipment. Communication with the service provider and follow up action. Responsible for purchase and management of available water as well as use of our soil moisture monitoring technology.

3. Maintenance: Responsible for regular maintenance, cleanliness and tidiness of all vineyard machinery (all current late models) and company vehicles including tractor, sprayer, other associated attachments, and any other vineyard implements.

4. Growers Management: Responsible for all aspects with regards to Growers network management including Communication with growers on a daily basis; Contract management, redaction and actioning; Quality assessment and viticultural advices

5. Vintage: During vintage coordinate the fruit harvesting logistics with the winemaker’s assistance (use of vintrace) and additional help required in the picking of any contracted Two Hands vineyards

6. Budget planning and review: The Viticulture Manager develops the annual operating and capital budget for the viticulture department and reviews in accordance with THW expectations.

7. People: The Viticulture Manager supervise and directs the vineyard staff, setting and tracking the goals and objectives for the team, encouraging creativity and innovation. The role also included management of contractors and supervision of staff during vineyard activities, including new site development, pruning, thinning and picking etc.

8. Relationships: The Viticulture Manager is a member of our Senior Managers Group (with our Chief winemaker, production Manager, CFO, General Manager and Managing Director). The role requires productive working relationships with relevant departments. Our Viticulture Manager also attends Board Meeting and Strategic Meeting as required.

9. Administrative: The role requires that all record keeping in relation to the vineyard operations and staff management is maintained. This includes, but is not limited to spray diaries, all OH&S requirements and other company policies and operating procedures as well as the management of ISO 9001 certification for the Viticulture department.

Skills:
Technical mastery: High proficiency in a broad range of viticulture skills and practices is expected.
Decision-making: Able to back your own judgement and follow through decisions with confidence and poise. This skill is critical during vintage.
Versatile: The Viticulture Senior Manager is able to adapt to changed circumstances and continue to pursue long-term goals.
Communication: The Viticulture Senior Manager needs good communication skills to effectively lead and motivate the team as well as the necessary communication skills to convey the story and direction of the Two Hands Wines brand and its wines to various stakeholders internal and external to the company.
Technology: Viticulture Senior Manager uses computers and tech driven appliances with ease and confidence.
Experience: Viticulture Senior Manager has at least 5 years in vineyard management or supervision with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in work methods.

Competencies:
Other qualifications both wine and non-wine related, such as Fork Lift License,
Public speaking and presentation skills.
