Job Description

Located near the Central Tablelands of NSW and 30 minutes from Orange, Tamburlaine Organic Wines is seeking an ambitious, energetic winemaker to join the team.

Certified since 2003, it is leading the way, crafting a contemporary portfolio from the vineyard through to the winery as a sustainable, family-owned business. It is fully vertically integrated from its own high-altitude vineyards through winemaking, bottling and logistics to the cellar door, bar and wine club. The wines can also be found across Australia, UK, Europe, and Nordic countries.

The vineyards total more than 700 ha, including Boomey (525 ha, 550m-610m), Bellview (105 ha, ~610 m) and Borenore (88 ha, ~860m). All are undergoing significant redevelopment and investment, encompassing more than 15 varieties including Gewürztraminer, Grenache and Malbec.


Job Requirements

Reporting to the Chief Winemaker, this is a full-time senior role with day-to-day management responsibilities, plus thoughtful input to winemaking and vineyard direction.
It also requires representation at wine shows and continuing professional development through seminars and conferences plus contact with trade and media.
It involves a high degree of hands-on management including:

Winemaking and operational functions:
• Management and oversight of all aspects of wine production and winery team;
• Coordinate all winery operations in conjunction with the winemaking and cellar teams;
• Support the development of new wines and new products for the portfolio;
• Bring innovations and ideas to drive quality and efficiency;
• Be the primary contact for contract clients during harvest to ensure a high level of service;
• Assist in coordination of grape deliveries;
• Ensure accurate and timely updates of the bulk wine system – from grape receival to laboratory records, bottling and costing;
• Coordinating bottling volumes, timings and analytics with production team;
• Prepare and amend Standard Operating Procedures as required;
• Liaise with suppliers;
• Coordinate OH&S and environmental procedures ensuring compliance with both internal and legal requirements.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Tertiary qualification in oenology;
• At least 3 years’ relevant experience;
• Valid driver’s licence, ability to physically work vintage hours.

Remuneration:
• Annual base salary starting at AUD$85,000 commensurate to relevant experience.
