Winemaker/Cellar Master Position
Eastern Peake & Latta Vino
Eastern Peake was established in 1983 by the Latta family, the business is a small family run operation guided by Second Generation Vigneron Owen Latta. Two wine labels are produced on site - Eastern Peake (Estate grown vineyards) & Latta vino (Negotiant - contract growers in Western & Central Victoria).
Eastern Peake is located at Coghills Creek 25km northwest of Ballarat Victoria. We produce ultra cool climate Pinot Noir & chardonnay, Organic practices are used on our own sites of 16 acres plus 10 acres in conversion of neighbouring vineyards. 7 acres of new plantings of Chardonnay & Pinot Noir have been recently been planted to bolster our fruit supply going into the future.
Latta vino has been built on the strong relationships of long term grape growers with unique vineyard sites across western & Central Victoria. These sites enable the production of complex, interesting, fine & fun wines that speak of place & the growers highlighting the wines via a careful hand in the cellar.
A unique & rare opportunity has arisen for a winemaker/cellarmaster to join our team,
we are seeking out a person for full time work, with 3 - 5+ years experience in winemaking - preferably of a cool climate background with a passion for organic viticulture. The ability to work within a small team under the head winemaker, To contribute, understand, execute and manage the daily winemaking requirements in conjunction with the head Winemaker. Keeping the cellar organised/hygiene to the highest standards, Data entry & management on vinsight the winery IT operations system, running & managing estate bottling, whilst having exceptional communication skills & work ethic.
Eastern Peake now 40 years old & Latta being in production for over a decade. It couldn’t be more of an exciting time, the vineyards are delivering such exceptional quality fruit to work with, the cellar is a dream to run & the press we’ve received from near & abroad has been really quiet incredible. Job Requirements
* Relevant tertiary winemaking qualification
* minimum of 3 - 5+ years winery experience, including supervisory roles.
* A great tasting palate
* The flexibility of working some occasional longer hours throughout the growing season & harvest
* High level of attention to detail
* Run & Maintain our own estate bottling line (develop some contract bottling services)
* Organise and manage bottling schedules, supplies, label printing and regulations
* self-motivated, energetic & the ability to work autonomously
* Operation, calibration, maintenance & cleanliness of machinery & equipment.
* Valid licences for car & forklift
* Great Leadership, Articulation, verbal communication & problem solving skills.
* Supervision of permanent, casual and contract labour.
* Experience in keeping records, data entry through our systems - vinsight & Excel.
* Undertake Laboratory Analysis.
* A commitment to Workplace Health & Safety of Personal & Vineyard Sites.
* Vineyard monitoring/analysis.
* Physically fit & able to safely lift, bend, reach, etc and work with repetitive tasks.
* Good understanding of vineyard operations and management.
* Cane pruning experience (off season winter work - Guyot Poussard).
* Hosting customer/trade tastings, visits, and events when required.
* Occasional Tractor driving & Operation.
* Great taste in Music.
