Job Description
This role is a key position in a small team as part of a growing business. In this role you will be responsible for making the range of wines for the Four Winds Vineyard brand and some contract wines on behalf of other local growers. The total volume that goes through the winery will be around 150tonnes.

We aim to make wine that is approachable, consistent, a reflection of the vineyard and produced with care and attention.

We encourage you to undertake professional development opportunities with wine show judging etc. We are also open to discussing 4-6 weeks unpaid leave to allow you to complete northern hemisphere vintages.

Four Winds Vineyard is a family owned and operated vineyard 4 kilometres east of Murrumbateman, New South Wales, and a 30minute drive north-west of Canberra.

We are a team that love our job and as a small business have enjoyed incorporating some new practices into our business. We ran a successful crowd funding campaign to expand our existing winery in 2014, together with two neighbours we turned four tonnes of spare shiraz grapes into $41K for refugees living in Canberra, our photographic label design has won three international design awards and our CEO was named 2017 Australian Women in Wine owner/operator of the year.

Four Winds Vineyard has recently expanded to include Kyeema Estate – a 6ha vineyard and winery. This has given us access to some new varieties and some older vines and we are looking forward to growing the business with these new wines.

The business consists of two vineyards; the 33-acre Four Winds vineyard produces five varieties of grapes; Shiraz, Riesling, Cabernet, Merlot and Sangiovese, which were planted in 1998 and 1999. The Kyeema Estate Vineyard was planted in the early 1980s and is located on the Barton Highway and grows Shiraz, Chardonnay, Viognier, Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet.

We love the simple things; making great wine and wood-fired pizzas.

What started out as one couple’s dream to grow and sell grapes has turned into an inter-generational family business. Four Winds Vineyard now grows grapes, makes wine and has a cellar door on site, so that you can come and sit amongst the vines and enjoy our wines with our delicious wood-fired pizzas.

We understand that great wines are made in the vineyard, so a lot of our energy goes into growing the best grapes. Each year we hand-prune each of our 29,000 vines to ensure each plant has the best start to the season. To allow air and light into the canopy we leaf pluck and shoot-thin through the growing season. Come harvest time we handpick the grapes so that they arrive at the winery in the best condition. We love making wine, and want to ensure we are making the best wines possible for you.

The ‘Four Winds’ Story
The Four Winds Story began with a miner and his wife who lived on the property in a slab-hut. Her name was Scheherazade, after the story telling character in The Arabian Nights. Her favourite story described a magic carpet being borne by the four winds of good fortune. She named this small farm in Murrumbateman ‘Four Winds’ in the hope it would carry their good fortunes. We hope that the four winds carry your good fortunes!
