Wine Industry Jobs celebrates 20 years
20/04/2022

Way back in 2002 a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, young(ish) winemaker fed up with slow and overpriced media print advertising decided to fix one of the biggest problems he could see in the wine industry - staff procurement, exorbitant advertising fees and staff acquisition delays - set about to create WineIndustryJobs.com.au out of his own initiative and financing.

For the first 6 years he ran it in his spare time with his partner (she helped run it in her spare time), on basic bespoke 'spaghetti' software, which in those days cost a small fortune. His vision was to supply a service to the Australian and New Zealand wine industries that hadn't been provided before. It was a labour of love as many people still hadn't even heard of the internet. Back in 2002 only 7% of wineries had websites, most consisting of fairly basic static pages. The small yearly fees he charged employers to advertise ($195 per year all inclusive) didn't even cover maintenance on the website. Yet he persisted, funding the venture from the proceeds of his successful publication entitled the Essential Wine Tasting Guide  (you may have heard of it), to the tune of $20k per year.

Then in 2008, after years of building a solid foundation, the website had grown to the point where it demanded new expensive software, automation, and all the bells and whistles that you now expect from websites, so a new 'user pays' job pricing structure was implemented to bring the website fees into line with mainstream jobsites, and to fund the necessary software upgrades. With new software, Wine Industry Jobs flourished almost doubling visitation year on year to now become the longest running, most visited and used wine jobs website in the Southern Hemisphere, and arguably the best Wine Jobs website anywhere in the world. The rest is history as they say.

It's been 20 years in the making of a legend. We've assisted jobseekers to become employers, and sometimes employers to once again become jobseekers, some people grew up with it, others came upon it later in life, whichever one you are we are sure it had a profound effect on your job hunting / staff acquisition strategy, and we sincerely thank you for your patronage and look forward to the next 20 years together.

Thank you for believing with me.
